Many buyers send the manufacturer one line: "What is your price for bulk argan oil?" The likely result is a generic offer, days of back-and-forth questions, or a price you cannot compare with anyone else's. A well-written quote request is the shortest route to an accurate offer, and it is also the first test of how professional a supplier really is.
Why the request shapes the quote
The price of argan oil is not a single number. It depends on grade (cosmetic or culinary), packaging, quantity, required documents and delivery date. If you leave these out, each manufacturer fills the gaps with its own assumptions, and you end up comparing quotes built on different foundations.
The ten details to include
- Your company and target market: import country and business type (brand, distributor, retailer). The country drives documents, labelling and shipping options.
- End use: cosmetic or culinary. These are different products with different processing and paperwork. Ask for separate quotes if you need both.
- Specifications: ask for the technical data sheet and share your own requirements, such as acidity, clarity or aroma limits. A word like "pure" does not mean the same thing to everyone.
- Quantity: first order and expected annual volume. If you are unsure, work it out first with our quantity calculation guide.
- Packaging: bulk drums or finished bottles; size, closure, dropper or pump, glass colour.
- Branding and labels: will you supply artwork or need help? State the required label languages.
- Documents: certificate of analysis, certificate of origin, safety data sheet. Do not assume a certification exists: ask, and verify it. Our guide to technical and safety data sheets shows what to request.
- Delivery terms: preferred Incoterm, port or address, and transport mode. If undecided, ask for several options.
- Required date: say whether it is tied to a season or campaign.
- Sample: request one before the large order and say what you plan to test.
What happens when something is missing
| Detail | Why the manufacturer needs it | If missing |
|---|---|---|
| End use | Grade, processing, documents | Quote for the wrong product |
| Quantity | Minimums and scheduling | Indicative price you cannot contract on |
| Packaging | Materials and labour | Large gaps between quotes |
| Destination | Documents, labels, shipping | Missing paperwork on arrival |
A simple template
- Two lines about your company and market.
- The product: grade, use and specifications.
- First quantity and expected annual volume.
- Packaging, bottle and label.
- Documents, delivery terms and required date.
- Ask that the quote state what is included and excluded, its validity and payment terms.
- Send the same text to every manufacturer you compare.
Common mistakes
- Asking "how much per kilo?" with no grade or packaging.
- Relying on old prices: raw material costs move with the season and harvest.
- Changing specifications after receiving the quote, which restarts pricing.
- Forgetting samples and documents until it is too late.
FAQ
Can I ask for a price without an exact quantity?
Yes. Give a range and ask for pricing at several tiers so you can see how price changes.
Should I request a sample at the same time?
For a first-time supplier, yes. It saves time.
Is the quoted price fixed?
It depends on raw materials, freight and exchange rates, so quotes carry a validity period. Decide before it expires.
How many manufacturers should I contact?
Two or three serious ones with an identical request is enough.
